Job Description

The purpose of the Operations Manager is to direct, organize, manage and coordinate all activities related to commercial landscaping projects and their respective project teams, while ensuring business goals and objectives are met or exceeded. As part of the Senior Management Team, the Operations Manager will work with the Executive Leadership Team in accomplishing organizational planning & objectives, resolving key issues, and developing & maintaining overall operational excellence.

Direct reports
Superintendents, Heavy Equipment Supervisor and Field Site Supervisors – In total 7 people

  • Establish an annual business plan with the President to identifying objectives for: revenue & profitability, staffing & equipment levels, employee training & development, and business development
  • Cultivate and maintain client and consultant relationships
  • Develop and implement operating methods and procedures designed to improve job site productivity and product quality
  • Develop, monitor, and maintain key performance indicators utilizing reporting, documentation, and records to achieve excellent operational performance
  • Monitor and analyze weekly job costs and discuss findings with direct reports
  • Advance and maintain reporting process for direct reports on daily production to identify potential productivity problems and realize strategic solutions. Review weekly production status with direct reports and resolve any operational, human resources, and technical problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays
  • Review and approve monthly progress reports, accounts payable invoices, supplier’s invoices over $5,000.00, and final invoicing on all projects
  • Coach, mentor, motivate, and manage performance of direct reports including consistent performance feedback, periodic performance reviews, and implement development plans
  • Champion & manage a safety culture, and ensure compliance to safety standards & safe work practice for all commercial staff
  • Establish cross-functional training within direct reports and develop an operational continuity plan
  • Advocate company values and foster a positive company culture

Technical Requirements
  • 10+ years of related construction operation experience
  • Exceptional understanding and knowledge of landscape construction and horticultural industry
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills

Degree in Construction Project Management or related discipline is considered an asset
